My wife, bless her tells me that I am rapidly becoming, or perhaps that should read have become a “Grumpy old fart”, so what better forum to spread my doom, gloom and paranoia than WordPress. I also have a love of old pictures, postcards and Edwardian Actresses, in particular Miss Gabrielle Ray which I hope to share at regular intervals. Sadly I heard that she has spurned the industry that gave her wealth and notoriety and that she blames her ill health on this. She was quoted as saying that she would take legal action against anyone publishing her photographic history how she could possibly achieve this is beyond me given her popularity. Her books are also on sale on Amazon so she clearly she is still earning from the sex industry she has rejected. She was truly a beauty but like Betty Paige has gone into seclusion from her fans
I did read that she had suggested that she didn’t want her pictures posted, however having been paid I doubt that she could have stopped it happening and as you say her book is still selling quite well and very expensive. I also read that her ill health was related to the stress of being “ripped off” by her friends, not sure whether that was true or whether she just decided that “enough was enough”. Being rather cynical she may have decided to leave whilst still “on top”
could be nobody wants to be remembered as a has been and the beauty business is no exception. With acting or popular music you can reinvent yourself but in the beauty business looks are everything and sadly age is less kind to many women
