Joan Hackett – The Outlaw and the Nun – 1963


Joan Hackett played the part of Sister Blandina Segale in “The Outlaw and the Nun” (6th December 1963) from the series The Great Adventure which dramatised the lives of famous historical persons, as well as important historical events. The episode about Sister Blandina documented her encounter with Billy the Kid.

Sister Blandina Segale, born Rosa Maria Rye (Cicagna 23rd  May 1850 -Cincinnati 23rd February 1941) was a religious and missionary. She moved at age four with his family to Cincinnati 8th December 1868 she took vows of entering the convent of the Sisters of Charity  with the name of Blandina in memory of St. Blandina ,  martyred in 177.

Her religious life in the areas east of the Rio Grande and south of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (the Santa Fe County , New Mexico ) was recounted in her diary “At the End of the Santa Fe Trail” (first published time in 1932 , then by Bruce Publishers, Milwaukee ,Wisconsin , 1948 ).
