“STARS” ON STRIKE: THE MUSIC HALL WAR.
The war in the music-halls circles round the refusal of the managers to accept certain conditions laid down by artistes as follows, among other points: That halls working two shows a night must pay for matinees at the rate of one-twelfth salary for each matinee; that no artiste can be transferred from one hall to another without his consent; that a turn shall not be squeezed out by changing his time of appearing; that disputes shall be referred to aboard of arbitration; artistes must not appear within a mile (or within three months in London) of a rival hall; no commission is to be charged for an artiste booked direct; strikers shall not be blacklisted.
