My wife, bless her tells me that I am rapidly becoming, or perhaps that should read have become a “Grumpy old fart”, so what better forum to spread my doom, gloom and paranoia than WordPress. I also have a love of old pictures, postcards and Edwardian Actresses, in particular Miss Gabrielle Ray which I hope to share at regular intervals. Grumpy old fart!!! 
Due to her style of headgear, I suspect that she might be a VAD (Voluntary Aid Division) member, rather than a nurse. If you ever get the chance to read it, Lyn Macdonald’s “Roses of no man’s land” is an excellent source of information about the medical units of this era.

I haven’t seen that one but I’m in the middle of reading A Fine Brother: The Life of Captain Flora Sandes by Louise Miller which is interesting, about the VAD nurses, the Red Cross didn’t shine
I haven’t heard of that one. There are so many books about WW I, it is hard to know about them all.

There are, I only bought it because Flora was the only woman to fight in the army, although not the British army during WW1
