The Coronation would have been for King George V on Thursday 22nd June 1911, unlike the postcard Uncle Tom had a “fine view”
Men Fined at Willesden for Insulting Lady Attired in New Fashion – 1911
THREE ANKLE SKIRT WEARERS.
Men Fined at Willesden for Insulting Lady Attired in New Fashion.
For causing a disturbance by using insulting words to a lady wearing an ankle skirt, Alfred Howcroft and Frank Chapman, packers, were each fined 3s. 6d. at Willesden yesterday.
In St. Paul’s Churchyard yesterday a tall, pretty girl appeared in an ankle skirt. Six or seven inches of trousers appeared below her skirts, and the unwonted sight soon drew a crowd. To escape them she took refuge in a teashop and passed out into Paternoster-row, only to find her admirers there. Finally she escaped in a taxicab.
Another ankle skirt wearer appeared in Hull. The attentions of a crowd forced her to take refuge in a costumier’s shop, and it was only by saying, untruthfully, that she had gone that the police were able to clear the street. Her costume was vivid blue in colour.
