Penlee – 1981
On this day in 1981, less than a week after Guernsey’s Gold Medal service to the Bonita, the eight volunteer crew of the Penlee lifeboat Solomon Browne were killed trying to save the crew of the Union Star. We will never forget their selfless bravery.
They were Coxswain William Trevelyan Richards, Second Coxswain and Mechanic James Madron, Assistant Mechanic Nigel Brockman, Emergency Mechanic John Blewett, Crew Member Charles Greenhaugh, Crew Member Kevin Smith, Crew Member Barrie Torrie and Crew Member Gary Wallis.
