Welcome home
This little boy John Murdoch looks thrilled, even though he wasn’t old enough to remember his father. British soldier Hector Murdoch arrived home on his birthday,
after three years in Japanese captivity. John and his mother Rosina decorated the cottage with flags and signs to welcome him home.
The cottage is a prefab which were erected to help with the housing shortage following the second World War, the intention was that they should be a short term solution but some are still used today.
In the 50’s I remember Mum and Dad having one, I don’t remember much of the home but, typical kid, I remember the swing and sandpit in the garden
