Pals – W.W. 1
“Pals” from a painting by Geo. Soper.
Colour postcard (one of a series) which explains the rehabilitation work of St. Dunstan’s and asks for contributions.
This one shows a blind man, a bandage over his eyes sitting in a green canvas deck chair,
his left arm round a collie dog, a walking stick in his right, with an army officer’s cap on the floor next to him.
The poem on the reverse reads;
I want no better pal than you, old boy,
It’s all the same to you that I can’t see.
There’s not a chum in all the great big world
To give me greater love and sympathy.
There’s some as don’t like dogs, the sort of folks
Who’d drop a tanner in a beggar’s hand,
As though an act like that makes up for ALL –
A dog’s devotion lets me understand.
